I believe I am a victim of the apparent transfer of power from our police over to private security firms. Their employees appear to have been granted discretionary rights as to whether uniformed officers are called immediately on discovering a serious offence has been committed.

While Securicor operatives pound our streets and supermarket car-parks, going about their daily business, routinely on the lookout for robbers because of the nature of their work, why not slightly modify their working practices? Once someone dodgy is spotted, frisk the individual for anything offensive, effect a confiscation, bully him (or her) into signing a disclaimer and send them on their way.
